Why injured and orphaned animals need your help.
Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center—founded by multiple-licensed rehabilitator, educator, and advocate, Barbara "Missy" Runyan—has been rehabilitating New York State wildlife for over 20 years and is one of the only facilities in the surrounding area licensed and equipped to treat large mammals like bears and white-tailed deer, along with endangered and migratory birds.
Each individual species requires a special diet, housing, environmental stimuli, antibiotics, recovery caging, and vet care, to name just a few daily necessities. Orphans must be raised with their own kind (not inside people's homes!) and taught survival skills for proper behavioral development. Eagles and other raptors suffering from lead poisoning must be monitored daily and undergo rigorous treatment protocols before being released back into the wild.
Volunteers spend countless hours day and night cleaning cages, changing bandages, feeding, and providing care for these animals. While not all can be saved, thousands have been rehabilitated and released back into their habitats.
As an all-volunteer-run 501(c)3 organization, we depend entirely on private donations from people like you. Other than payments made to professionals in veterinary care or construction and excavation for our enclosures, no salaries are paid.
The center plays a critical role at a time when animal and human conflicts have increased. Do your part and become a friend to the feathered and furry, help the wild stay wild!
Thank you.
